Asphalt-Saturated Underlayment

Asphalt-saturated underlayment used to be the standard type of underlayment over a decade ago. When synthetic materials became commonplace in construction, it was soon replaced by other types of underlayment. Despite this, it is still a flexible and water-resistant felt that is readily available on the market, which usually makes it the most affordable type of underlayment that residential roof repair contractors can offer.

Non-Bitumen Synthetic Underlayment

Nowadays, non-bitumen synthetic underlayment is the most prevalent type of underlayment used in residential roofing. This material is essentially a direct upgrade to asphalt-saturated felt, though it offers significantly better resistance to water. Non-bitumen underlayment is also designed for full application on residential roofs, making it a cost-effective option for most residential owners.

Rubberized Asphalt Underlayment

If you are looking for premium underlayment, rubberized asphalt is the way to go. It offers all the benefits of other types of underlayment and more. Because it largely consists of asphalt and rubber polymer, rubberized asphalt is completely waterproof.
